SUNGLASSES – FACTS and TRIVIA

FACTS

In previous blogs we discussed proper glasses for different faces and the benefit of different color lens.  Here, we will discuss the differences between lens choices and how they may affect you and your sight – and some trivia about celebrities that may be of interest to you.  We hope you find this educational and entertaining.

First let's talk about the needs and benefits of wearing sunglasses.  All sunglass lenses must be impact resistant.  This means that they must not shatter when dropped or stressed.  This is required by the FDA.  In order for the lens to effectively protect your eyes, it must filter out all the damaging UVA and UVB rays of the sun.  Most people believe that the darkness of the lens is what protects their eyes. The degree of darkness has no effect on UV rays. For adequate protection, be certain your glasses contain a tag or label providing this information – "100% UVA & UVB protection"

While expensive sunglasses may be of higher quality, you can also get a good pair for under $20 if you make sure to check that the lenses provide adequate protection from UVA and UVB light and are free of distortions.  There is no significant difference between sunglasses that cost $150.00 or those you pick up for a few dollars from any inexpensive shop. This is because the UV protection involves dipping the glasses in a cheap formula that all manufacturers can afford, It's compulsory under EU law, so all sunglasses are safe.  Paying more means you probably will get better quality. The frames may be made from durable, handmade acetate rather than cheap injection molding.  Usually, the handmade acetate ones have a core wire in the frame.  You also get stronger hinges and better lenses. It can't be said often enough, though, that what matters most of all is not the brand or the price, but how the glasses suit your look and face shape.  You can find many fine choices of inexpensive sunglasses at    www.sunsetsunglasses.com

You should know that additional protection is available with certain coatings.   Polarized lenses consists of a thin layer of chemical film which can refract away the ultraviolet rays that shine into the lens horizontally.  This eliminates the glare associated with water, snow and windshield reflections.  If you spend a great deal of your time exposed to these conditions – then polarized glasses would be highly recommended.

Another type of lens available only through prescription glasses is called a "transition lens". This photochromatic lens is covered with a different chemical film.  Photochromatic lens will automatically become dark when exposed to sunlight and the coating is more expensive than polarized coating.  The downside to this lens is that you must be in the sunlight for it to darken.  Quite often, you are not in direct sunlight while driving a car.

TRIVIA

The wizardry possessed by sunglasses, is the ability to transform you into a wannabe with little or no effort.  Which way you end up depends primarily on three important things.
  • Your degree of self-confidence.
  • Your general style of dress. and,
  • The shape of your face.
Self-confidence is the most important of the three.  Most of us know someone who can put on most anything, no matter how ludicrous or bizarre, and look absolutely brilliant.  This is because, they have so much confidence in their choices, they are able to dress with such infectious conviction that everyone assumes they must know what they're doing.

Most rock stars have this quality – but If you don't have this revolting self-confidence thing – don't sweat it,  because,   most people don't.  That's why it's important to choose sunglasses that are compatible with your everyday style of dress.

If you wannabe like Tom Cruise or maybe the Blues Brothers – then you should consider wearing Ray-Ban Wayfarers.
If you want to look like one of those almond-eyed aliens who run around in spaceships -  Then you need a pair of Oakleys.
This is called "staying in your style zone."  So – if you're a chinos-and-polo-shirts man, don't think a pair of dramatic sunglasses are suddenly going to turn you into Pete Doherty.

Trying to look like a rock star is one of the biggest mistakes men make with sunglasses.  Big, bold shades are fine if you're trying to be incognito  -  but  they look ridiculous on the average guy. You have to work within your style zone – so, if you dress classically, you should go for a classic, slightly old-fashioned shape rather than plastic-framed wraparounds. This does not mean your glasses need to be boring.  Within that classic shape, there are all sorts of color variations to consider with  frames and lenses.  Sunglass fashions follow clothes fashions, so you need something to go with that high-tailored, slightly gentrified look.   Aviators and mirrored shades are still a good choice – but trends may soon be turning to smalles sunglasses.

Blue tint sunglasses may be a good choice for fashion tints in lighter shades.  But scientist recommend them because of their color effect on human feelings.

So, if you want to lose weight and lack self-control over your love of all things rich and delicious, maybe it's time for some stupider methods of weight loss.  Now – with a big fanfare – we introduce the Weight Loss Sunglasses. Yep, these guys are tinted blue, the "least appetizing color of the spectrum," sure to make that ice cream sundae sitting in front of you look downright disgusting.

Now – with a little bit of discipline on your part – you can look smart with the right sunglasses – and have a great physique at the same time.  All thanks to your self confidence and your courage to make the right choices.

FASHION TRENDS IN SUNGLASSES TODAY

With all the styles available today, everyone can afford more than one pair of sunglasses – especially if they are replicas.  So now any fashion conscious person can easily compliment any wardrobe.  This year’s favorites include 70′s retro style thick frames, Ray-Ban Wayfarers, Ray-Ban Aviators, Large gradient lens, tortoise shell frames and the John Lennon inspired small round glasses.

The Aviators were popular in the 40′s – and today are available frameless as well as with frames - and the Wayfarers date back to the early fifties. Although the Aviators have changed little, the Wayfarers have undergone a complete makeover -being offered in bright colors with two-toned frames. The John Lennon glasses in particular are in great demand. Tortoise shell frames are the rage today – as they can compliment any outfit or color. The gradient lens are not only fashionable – but are great for driving.  They offer maximum protection in the top 2/3 of the lens (as they are darker there) and are not as dark on the bottom – enabling you to read your dashboard instruments while driving.

The attraction of replica sunglasses can be attributed to their low cost and good quality. Available at a fraction of the original design, these glasses offer almost all of the features of the originals. Their manufacture is very similar – their quality is very good – and they offer the highest protection against the UV rays.  Replica sunglasses offer a VFM (value for money) that is very tempting.  That is why it is difficult to keep them on the shelf.

So don’t worry – you’ll look great.  Pick up several pairs of replica sunglasses and join the in-crowd.  Your eyes and your pocketbook will thank you for it.

The Seven Secrets to Perfect Sunglasses

Before selecting sunglasses – you must consider how they will look on your face.  What is your face shape and coloring?  What frame shape and color is best for you?  Determine this by identifying the following:

  1. The frame shape should compliment your face shape.
  2. The frame should enhance your best facial feature.
  3. The frame size should be in proportion to the shape of your face.

Sounds difficult? – Not really

There are seven basic shapes.

Once you have identified your shape – you’ll be ready to pick that perfect pair. Without this information – you will not be able to decide on the best glasses for you.

ROUND:

Curved lines – No angles – Length and Width about equal.  If this fits your description, select narrow glasses, such as rectangular – to lengthen your face.

OVAL:

If your face fits this description – you have the perfect shape. Glasses that are wide at the broadest part of your face will be complimentary.

BASE DOWN TRIANGLE:

Narrow at the forehead – Wider at the chin.  This face will best be complimented by glasses that are wider in shape.

BASE UP TRIANGLE:

The top half of the face is wider – The bottom half is narrower.  A light colored frame or rimless glasses will best compliment this face – taking attention away from the top half.

SQUARE:

A strong jaw and a broad forehead characterize thi shape.  Frames that are thicker or have more width will be complimentary.

DIAMOND:

A narrow jaw line with wider cheek bones describes this face.  Sunglasses that are rimless or cat eye would be attractive on this face.

OBLONG:

If your face is longer than wide and has a straight cheek line, then this best describes you.  Frames with depth to add dimension will be a plus for your face.

SKIN COLOR:

The color of your skin should also be considered.  Skin tones are either COOL or WARM.  Blue or Pink undertones indicate a COOL complexion whereas Yellow and Gold undertones signify a WARM one.  A person with COOL coloring should select frames of Blue, Black, Brown, Plum or Magenta.  Persons of  WARM coloring should consider Peach, Gold, Copper, Orange, Tan or Off White frames.

Personal satisfaction and self esteem is important. You will be wearing your sunglasses every day.  You certainly want to pleased each time you look in the mirror.

If you follow this guideline, there isn’t any reason you will not be pleased.

Sunglasses ~ Fashion Trend or Healthy Choice?

Sunglasses

Sunglasses can add a sense of mystery and excitement to any look.  But they are more than a fashion statement – they are also the means with which to protect your eyes from the sun.

The amount of darkness or the color pf the lens do not determine the benefits of protection from the sun’s UV rays.  To be protective, the glasses should block at least 99% of the harmful UV rays.  The labeling on the glasses should provide the necessary information.

Types of Lenses

The lens – which may be made from glass or plastic may be treated for special effects. These effects, although attractive, have little to do with screening out the UV rays.

A MIRRORED LENS may reflect the visible light to reach the eyes while providing a high degree of privacy.

GRADIENT LENS Is darker at the top while fading to almost clear at the bottom. This feature provides semi-privacy while allowing better visibility when looking down.

POLARIZATION cuts the glare from highly reflective surfaces such as snow or water.

TINTED LENS provide shade but do not affect your color perception.

PHOTOCHROMIC LENS are light sensitive and darken or lighten according to the degree of light hitting upon the lens.

SUNGLASS  STYLE TRENDS

Style trends in fashion can be seen from Runway Models to Celebrities to Retro fashions.  “Aviator”, Wayfarers” and “Jackie-O” styles are making a comeback along with futuristic shapes like Wraps and Shields.

  • Wraps extend to the temple and literally “wrap” around the eyes providing complete protection from the sun and total privacy.
  • Shields have a modern look and may be half rimmed or rimless offering a wide range of tints.
  • Aviators and Wayfarers are retro styles that appear to be forever in fashion and popularity.

Tints are available in limitless shades so it should be no problem to compliment your wardrobe and flatter your face.

Choosing the Right Shape for You

Sunglasses should compliment your face by choosing a shape which is the opposite of the shape of your face.

Oval faces can can be complimented by most any style, whereas, round faces would look best in anything but round sunglasses.

Wraps, shields and other geometric shapes would best compliment a round face.

Thin faces are better complimented by rounder frames, as are angular faces.

Replica Designer Sunglasses can provide you with the style that best compliments your face at a fraction of the cost.
